The Freshman Research Initiative is a new approach to early stages of science education, placing students in unique research labs during their first year so they can get excited about their field of study. As the program gained traction, I was tasked with creating an icon for each research group. It was challenge to read up on over 30 research groups and comprehend the science enough to create a visual representation of it, but it ended up being one the projects for the college that I am most proud of.
The icon series has had many different uses since it was created, but the first implementation of it was a set of ink stamps, to be used at an event where attendees had a "passport" that they could get stamped when they visited the research group's booth and learned about their work.
The icons are also used to represent the different groups on all of their materials, including their website, t-shirts, presentations, etc.
